Job Description

Job Title: Renewable Energy Consultant Location: Barbados, Saint Lucia, or Guadeloupe. Other possible locations in the Caribbean Contract Duration: Full-time position under an Individual Contractor’s Agreement.

DRS is seeking a Renewable Energy Consultant for a development consulting firm to lead and support projects across the Caribbean. The selected consultant will conduct needs assessments, develop policy frameworks, and perform feasibility studies for renewable energy projects (including solar, wind, hydro, geothermal, and hybrid systems). The ideal candidate will bring a strong technical background along with an understanding of Caribbean energy markets, regulatory environments, and socio-economic dynamics to advance the adoption of clean energy solutions.

Scope of Work

1. Develop a Comprehensive Market Analysis of the Renewable Energy Sector in the Caribbean

  • In collaboration with the Department Director and other team members, conduct desk research and assessments to identify challenges and opportunities within the renewable energy sector in various Caribbean countries.
  • Identify priority projects aligned with regional needs and the organization’s areas of expertise.

2. Identify and Pursue Opportunities in the Renewable Energy Sector

  • Research business opportunities and funding prospects for renewable energy initiatives across the Caribbean.
  • Develop and manage strategic partnerships with potential clients, technical partners, and regional companies.
  • Conduct exploratory and fact-finding missions to increase visibility, foster collaboration, and identify potential partnerships.
  • Contribute to the development of technical proposals in response to RFQs, RFTs, and EOIs.

3. Implement Projects within the Climate Resilience, Environment, and Water and Waste Sectors

  • Lead and support project implementation, ensuring timely delivery of outputs in line with agreed terms of reference and client expectations.
  • Develop analytical frameworks, collect and interpret data, and conduct both qualitative and quantitative analyses.
  • Design data collection tools, perform surveys, and prepare reports with actionable conclusions.
  • Organize and facilitate focus groups, workshops, and training sessions; prepare presentations and contribute to outreach activities.
  • Lead or participate in field missions and prepare mission reports.
  • Present findings, recommendations, and deliverables to client representatives.
  • Undertake additional tasks as required to ensure project success.

Qualifications

  • Graduate degree in Energy Engineering, Environmental Science, Public Policy, Economics, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in renewable energy project development, policy advisory, or energy planning.
  • Demonstrated experience working in the Caribbean or other Small Island Developing States (SIDS) is highly desirable.
  • In-depth understanding of Caribbean energy challenges, including fossil fuel dependency, islanded grid systems, and climate vulnerability.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including both quantitative and qualitative research abilities.
  • Excellent planning, organizational, and prioritization skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to foster a collaborative, innovative, and results-oriented work environment.

Technical Skills

  • Excellent presentation and communication skills in English (proficiency in French, French Creole, or Spanish is an asset).
  • Strong writing and editing abilities to produce high-quality reports, presentations, and technical documentation.
